Root Canal Treatment-To Save Your Teeth

Earlier, a badly infected tooth, or one that just had significant decay, was doomed to be extracted. Today, the majority of these teeth can be salvaged by the Root Canal Specialist or the Endodontist.

When a tooth’s nerve tissue or pulp is damaged, it breaks down and bacteria begin to multiply within the pulp chamber. The bacteria and other decayed debris can cause an infection or abscessed Tooth. Severe pain, swelling, sensitivity to hot or cold, or a darkening tooth, are signs that a root canal problem exists.

Root Canal Treatment procedure is started by drilling the enamel part of the tooth, that is topmost portion of the tooth. First the Dentist enters the pulp chamber, where the infected pulp is present. The next step is exploration of root canal, removal of the remaining pulp tissue and infected tissue. The infected pulp is then drilled out and the root canal is disinfected with the help of intracanal medicament like essential oils (eugenol), phenolic compounds, Sodium Hypochlorite and iodides. Finally filling of root canal is done with an inert filling material called gutta percha.

Benefits of endodontic treatment?
Endodontic treatment saves teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted. Saving your natural teeth, if possible, is the best option. Occasionally a tooth cannot be saved. Endodontic treatment can be performed only if the root canals are accessible and can be adequately cleaned and sealed. The tooth must also have sufficient bone support.

Thangam's Dental Clinic, Chennai is one of the best dental clinic in India offering best root canal procedures at affordable prices.

Dental Crown To Save Your Teeth

What is a Dental Crown?
Dental crown or dental cap is a dental restoration that completely covers the visible portion of your damaged tooth to protect what remains of the tooth structure, providing you with a strong, long-lasting layer of protection against tooth fracture. Crowns are caps that are placed over teeth to both improve their appearance and their functionality. A dental cap is cemented onto the tooth for restoring the original natural-looking appearance of the teeth.

When is a dental crown needed?
Dental crowns may be the best option in various situations: a filling breaks, a tooth chips, a cavity is too large, or a tooth is misshaped.

Dental Crowns: Types & materials
Three main types of dental crowns exist, depending on the type of material:
1) porcelain crowns, 2) porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, and 3) gold crowns.

A porcelain crown is made completely of porcelain, which is an extremely natural looking and aesthetic material. Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns are made with a metal inside and porcelain outside; the metal inside provides proper strength and the porcelain outside provides a beautiful appearance. Gold crowns are obviously made of gold but are rarely used anymore due to their poor aesthetics.

The dentist will shape the tooth so that, with the artificial crown, it will be the same size as a normal tooth. Your dentist will use a soft mountable material to make an exact ‘impressions’ of the tooth that is to be crowned and the nearby teeth. A dental technician uses the impressions to make the crown the exact height and size needed.
A temporary crown made of plastic is put over the tooth until the permanent crown is made. You can chew on a temporary crown but it won’t be as strong as the finished one. When the crown is fitted, your dentist will make small adjustments to make sure you can bite comfortably. The crown is tried on first, and then glued into place.

Dental Crown: Care & flossing
A dental crown should not be treated any differently than other natural tooth. You should continue proper oral hygiene with routine brushing and flossing.

Thangam's dental clinic, Chennai offers best dental crowns procedures at affordable prices.

How to Get a "Hollywood smile"

Almost 90% of those dazzling smiles displayed in the media are carefully conceived in a dental office.
Cosmetic dentistry is any dental work that improves the appearance of a person's teeth, gums and/or bite.
Common procedures include bleaching, bonding, crowns, veneers and reshaping and contouring. These improvements are not always just cosmetic. Many of these treatments can improve oral problems, such as your bite.

Bleaching is a common and popular chemical process used to whiten teeth.Discolouration occurs in the enamel and can be caused by medication, coffee, tea and cigarettes. Discolouration also can be hereditary or due simply to getting older.

Bonding
Bonding is tooth-colored material used to fill in gaps or change the color of teeth.

Crowns, also known as caps, cover a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and appearance.

Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain or plastic placed over the front teeth to change the color or shape of your teeth.

Contouring and Reshaping
Tooth reshaping and contouring, is a procedure to correct crooked teeth, chipped or irregularly shaped teeth or even overlapping teeth in a single session.

The Cheapest Diastema Closure Technique in India

Diastema closure is a naturally occurring gap in the tooth row, most commonly between the incisors and first premolar. A diastema creates a dark spot within a smile as the darkness of the back of the mouth shows. It is also known as gap closure. Diastema is an adjustable dental condition. This includes traditional braces, Invisalign, or direct dental bonding to make the teeth wider and thus fill up the space.

Procedure

Tooth gap closure treatment of the teeth can be done using several methods like orthodontics, composite bonding, or porcelain veneers for optimal aesthetic results.
Some people get braces, which move the teeth together. Often, no matter where the diastema is, you must wear a full set of braces on both your upper and lower teeth. That is, because moving any teeth affects your entire mouth. If your lateral incisors are too small, your dentist may suggest widening them using crowns, veneers or bonding.

Tooth bonding provides one way a dentist can close the teeth gap. Diastema bonding can be placed on the two teeth that lie on each side of the gap so to reduce the gap's overall width. Depending on its original size, a dentist and patient might decide to fill in a diastema just partially or else close it all of the way.

A diastema that takes place because of a mismatch between the teeth and the jaw does not have symptoms. If you have a space because you are missing teeth, you might need more extensive dental repair. This might include dental implants, a bridge or a partial denture.

The major advantage of this procedure is that most of the person’s original tooth structure is maintained. Orthodontics treatment is very useful to maintain the diastema closure.

Thangam's dental care is a multi speciality dental clinic situated in the heart of Chennai city, with all latest equipments and providing all types of treatment modalities. Thangams qualified dentists helps you to get a new look to your face through gap closure treatments.

Cheap Dental Crowns in India

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a tooth. It covers the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength and to improve its appearance. Depending on your habits and the condition of your gums, there can be some drawbacks. Dental crowns cover the entire visible surface area of an affected tooth and add strength, durability, and stability to the tooth. Approximately 85% of dental crowns and bridges are metal-based and 15% ceramic-based.

There are various situations that would require the placement of a crown, such as root canals, lost fillings, dental bridges, decay below a filling, and chipping and cracking of tooth enamel. The cracking or breakage of teeth can be caused by age, tooth decay, fillings and an improper bite.

A dental crown may be needed to:

  • To protect a weak tooth (eg, from decay) from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth
  • To Support a tooth that has been badly damaged by tooth decay
  • To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't a lot of tooth left
  • To cover misshaped or severely discolored teeth
  • To hold a dental bridge in place
  • To cover a dental implant
  • To Protect a worn tooth
  • To cover a tooth that has been endodontically treated (had a root canal)

The Dental Crown Procedure

Depending on the extent of the decay or damage to the tooth, the dentist may perform a root canal before placing a crown on the tooth. If this is the case, the dentist may need to build a foundation for the crown after the root canal has been performed, also known as a "post-and-core" foundation.
Before the crown can be placed on the tooth, the dentist must file the tooth down to make room for it. Then an impression of the tooth and the surrounding teeth will be made. While the crown is being created, a temporary acrylic crown will be placed on the tooth.

When the permanent crowns are ready, the temporary crowns are replaced at a separate visit. The crown will last anywhere from seven to 40 years.

The followings are the Different types of Dental Crowns

  • Ceramic Crown
  • Metal crowns
  • Porcelain fused to metal (PFM)
  • Gold crowns
  • Composite Crowns

Best Removable Prosthesis with Affordable cost in India

A removable partial denture fills in the space created by missing teeth and fills out your smile. A denture helps you to properly chew food, a difficult task when you are missing teeth. In addition, a denture may improve speech and prevent a sagging face by providing support for lips and cheeks.

Partial dentures
A partial denture is a removable prosthesis; it is usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases, which are connected by metal framework. However partial dentures are not suited as a permanent solution due to the fact that, using fixation clasps, teeth will be damaged and loosen. Furthermore, the toothless part of the jaw is subject to a loss of the jaw bone, thus it is essential for most patients to regularly reline the partial denture in order to improve the position of the denture on its base.

Partial denture offers numerous advantages. The frameworks are cast to fit the teeth. Since they sit on the teeth, as well as being attached to them, they are extremely stable and retentive.  The teeth have been altered slightly beforehand in order that the partial denture can rest upon them without interfering with the way the patient bites the teeth together.  It also has many other advantages like it may preserve the natural tooth placement of your existing teeth. They ensure proper chewing and digestion by thoroughly grinding your food. A properly designed partial denture will assist in support of your existing teeth. A removable partial denture will add enjoyment to your life.
Advantages of removable partial dentures over fixed partial dentures:

·        Often look better
·        Easier to repair
·        Less expensive

Disadvantages:

·        Can be lost or broken when out of the mouth

Full dentures
A full set of upper or lower teeth, mounted in a plastic base. Dentures are also called false teeth. The fixation of full denture is mainly achieved by the suction effect between the dentures and mucosa. Thus the exact fit of the denture is absolutely essential.

Teeth whitening in India

Tooth whitening is a cosmetic treatment done to improve the appearance of teeth. It is the most commonly requested cosmetic dentistry procedure. Teeth whitening are one of the most straightforward ways to give you a whiter and brighter smile and it is one of the solutions provided by dentists in regards to whitening teeth that are stained and discolored. Teeth whitening can remove the toughest stains caused by tobacco, coffee, tea, red wine, medicines, and other products.

Before starting teeth whitening treatment you should have a dental exam because it is not safe for everyone. The oral health professional can advise the patient about the most appropriate procedure. The dentist will also discuss the expected results of treatment. Patients may expect yellow or gray teeth to be replaced with a bright, white color. However, whitening may not work well on some stain colors.  Whitening may not be recommended for people with gum disease, receding gums, or sensitive teeth. The dentist may advise against certain treatments if the enamel (the outer layer of the tooth) is worn. There is no enamel on an exposed tooth root, so the root cannot be whitened.
Women who are pregnant should avoid any teeth whitening treatment except for toothpaste. Dentist advice that other treatments could contain levels of peroxide those are potentially dangerous to the child.

Best Orthodontic Treatment in India

Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry that is concerned with the development and management of irregularities and abnormalities in the teeth and jaws. If you have crooked teeth and/or a misaligned bite, there are a variety of treatments that can help straighten your teeth, including braces and retainers. If the patient decides to proceed with treatment, an appointment with orthodontists is needed to collect records.  The record includes the following

Ø  Impressions from which plaster models of the teeth are constructed.
Ø  X-rays of the teeth and jaws.
Ø  Photographs of the teeth and face.

Records allow the orthodontist to analyze each case accurately. They are also used to record the existing malocclusion for future reference. In some cases, a removable retainer will be all that's necessary. In other rare cases especially when there is an extreme overbite or underbite, surgery may be necessary. In most cases, however, braces will be needed.

Generally, there are three types of braces that are

1) Brackets: Made of stainless steel or tooth-colored ceramic or plastic, brackets are bonded to the front of each tooth. Ceramic orplastic brackets are often selected for cosmetic reasons. Plastic brackets may become stained and discolored by the end of treatment. Another disadvantage of ceramic or plastic brackets is that they cause more friction between the wire and brackets, which can increase treatment time.

2) Traditional bands: These are the generally outdated "full metal-mouth" look, which consists of the use of metal brackets soldered to metal bands that wrap around each tooth.

3) Lingual-type brackets: These are brackets that attach to the back of teeth, hiding the bracket from view.
Orthodontic Braces

Advantages of braces:

  • Straighten teeth
  • Correct an irregular bite
  • Close unsightly gaps
  • Bring teeth and lips into proper alignment
  • Better appearance of teeth, smile and face
  • Improved self-esteem, confidence, well-being and feeling of acceptance
  • A more even bite
  • Reduce risk of injury to protruding front teeth
  • Improve dental growth in a positive manner
  • Correct harmful habits
  • Better jaw alignment, proportion and function
  • In young children, orthodontic treatment also may guide proper jaw growth and permanent tooth eruption.

Disadvantages of braces:
  • Discomfort and pain
  • Food can get stuck in the brackets.
  • Keeping good oral hygiene can be more difficult especially flossing.
  • You cannot eat certain foods such as hard candy, tough meats, etc.
  • Your teeth may become stained in certain cases from the bracket
  • Your lips may get cut up.
  • Your physical appearance will be different.
  • You will have to go to your orthodontist usually once a month for adjustments which can lead to a couple day of minor discomfort. There is pain associated with the adjustments.

Most of these braces disadvantages are not enough for people to warrant not getting their teeth straightened.
Dental braces are a great form of self improvement and help build confidence.

Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are the four permanent adult teeth located at the back corners of your mouth on the top and bottom. These teeth are considered as the hardest ones. Wisdom tooth extraction is usually performed when a tooth doesn't have room to and the impacted tooth results in pain, infection or other dental problems. Wisdom tooth extraction may be done by a dentist in the dentist's office.  You may have the surgery in the hospital, especially if you are having all your wisdom teeth pulled at one time or if you are at high risk for complications. If you have any infections, surgery will usually be delayed until the infection has cleared up. The dentist may have you take antibiotics to help heal the infection.

The main symptoms that lead to wisdom teeth extraction are:

Affordable Dental Implants in India

A dental implant is a "root" device, usually made of titanium, used in dentistry to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth to replace missing teeth. It can be used to support a number of dental prostheses, including crowns, implant-supported bridges or dentures. They can also be used as anchorage for orthodontic tooth movement. The use of dental implants permits unidirectional tooth movement without reciprocal action.

Dental implants are made of a variety of materials, such as titanium, aluminium oxide and surgical stainless steel. The devices are firmly attached to the jaw bone through surgery and implant posts provide a comfortable, stable support on which artificial teeth can be secured.

There are two types of implants:

1) An endosteal implant is placed directly into the bone, like natural tooth roots and can be used for many purposes. A single pin can be inserted through an existing tooth to strengthen and stabilize it. Other styles can provide an anchor for one or more artificial teeth.
2) A subperiosteal  implant consist of a metal frame that is fitted onto the jawbone just below the gum tissue. As the gums heal, the frame becomes fixed to the jawbone. Posts, which are attached to the frame, protrude through the gums. As with Endothelial implants, artificial teeth are then mounted to the posts.

Dental Implants India

Dental Implantology is a set of surgical techniques aiming at the functional rehabilitation of a patient affected by total or partial edentulism, by using dental implants, i.e. metal elements surgically inserted in the mandibular or maxillary bone, or above them but under the gum. These elements are fitted with connectors to fasten them to fixed or removable prostheses, to enable chewing functionality. Such implants can have different shapes; they can be inserted in different positions, with different techniques, and then connected to prostheses at different times.
Currently, implants are almost all made of titanium. Dental implants are man-made tiny titanium posts. They are inserted in the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes and are surgically placed into the jawbone.
Dental implant surgery is generally carried out under local anesthesia. This means that your mouth will be numb but you will stay awake.
Benefits of dental implant
1. Unlike dental bridge, implants do not require the grinding of adjacent teeth for support.
2. Implant restores the ability to chew properly, thus allowing a healthy and complete diet.
3. Enables you to speak properly.
4. Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth.
5. Many patients report that implants, despite the initial costs are more comfortable in long term than other conventional techniques and are considered the best option for replacement of teeth.
In India the dental implant cost in India starts around $500 which is very cheap compared to other countries like US and UK where implants cost is around $1200.
